Denza’s Z9GT hits 1,036 km — the longest-range mass-produced EV.

BYD’s premium Denza brand just raised the range stakes with a single press of the accelerator. The Z9GT announces a pure electric range of 1,036 kilometers, a figure the company bills as the world’s longest-range mass-produced BEV under current standards. It’s a bold move in a market where customers increasingly expect not just quick charging but real-world staying power from a car that prioritizes luxury branding as much as engineering.

The car’s tech story is as much about how the numbers are achieved as it is about the name on the badge. The Z9GT sticks to Denza’s familiar design language, but the big changes are under the surface. The LiDAR module that supports its intelligent driving stack has been relocated to the roof, paired with a new intelligent driving status indicator light that glows blue to signal when advanced features are active. Denza also rolls out 21-inch low-rolling-resistance “silent” wheels, a claimed assist to efficiency that matters when you’re chasing top-end range.

On the bodywork, Denza leans into its signature look with the two-tone, “Stellar Crown” headlight motif, and adds a pair of new exterior colors alongside Fjord Green. The dimensions are sizable in the segment: 5,195 mm in length, 1,990 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. It’s a formula built for quiet, comfortable long-distance travel as much as for showroom drama.

Power is where the Z9GT’s range claim becomes technically interesting. The lineup includes a single-motor version delivering up to 370 kW, plus a high-performance tri-motor configuration with a front motor of 230 kW and a rear setup of 310 kW + 310 kW. Denza specifies two battery pack options for the pure-electric version: 102.326 kWh and 122.496 kWh. Under the CLTC cycle, the vehicle’s stated ranges span 820 km, 860 km, 880 km, 1,002 km, and the headline 1,036 km. There is also a plug-in hybrid variant noted, equipped with a 63.82 kWh battery pack, though the article cuts off on the subsequent WLTC detail.

This is not just a numbers game. Denza—long associated with BYD’s premium tilt in China and historically linked to the legacy of its early joint-venture roots—uses the Z9GT to demonstrate how scale, battery technology, and a more aggressive AD compute footprint can push a “luxury” BEV into a new telemetry territory. The roof-mounted LiDAR and the dedicated driving-status indicator hint at an approach that wants to balance high-end comfort with an ever-better sensor suite, a trend still unfolding across China’s top-tier EVs.

From a manufacturing and sourcing perspective, the episode underscores two realities: first, a 1,036-kilometer CLTC figure requires substantial energy storage, which in turn presses China’s cell and pack supply chains toward higher capacity modules and robust thermal management. Second, the fact that Denza can offer multiple pack options (and a PHEV variant) signals ongoing flexibility in BYD’s product architecture to cater to both pure-electric and plug-in buyers without fragmenting production lines.

What buyers and operators should watch next is how these numbers translate into real-world performance, pricing, and after-sales support. Real-world efficiency, charging cadence, and long-term battery aging will determine whether the Z9GT’s extraordinary CLTC range translates into practical advantage. Price positioning, dealer network readiness, and supply chain stability for large-format packs will also shape whether this isn’t a one-off brag but a durable differentiation for Denza in China’s hyper-competitive premium EV segment.

For now, Denza has a clear message: you can build a mass-produced EV with heroic-narrative range, and you can do it with a design that nods to luxury while stuffing the tech into the roofline where LiDAR belongs.
