Regulators just stopped asking if AI should be regulated—now they're asking what it's for.
An op-ed published by Newsweek, written by Matthias Oschinski and Mina Narayanan of the Center for Security and Emerging Technology, argues that the central policy question should be purpose, not prohibition or permissiveness. The authors contend the real debate isn’t innovation versus regulation; it’s innovation guided by purpose versus innovation left to default incentives.
