Govee's Portable Lamp on Sale as Hue Go Rival

By Riley Hart

Govee is selling a portable lamp under $65 that could upstage Philips Hue Go. The Govee Table Lamp Classic is on sale at Amazon for $63.99, down from $79.99. The Verge

On battery life, the lamp packs a 4,800mAh battery that can run up to 30 hours with colored lighting, and around five hours with bright white. It can deliver up to 500 lumens of brightness, making it brighter than some portable rivals. Philips Hue Go, by comparison, can last up to 48 hours on a charge. The Verge

Portability is a strong selling point since the lamp is cordless and light enough to move from room to room or take outdoors. Still, there is a caveat for outdoor use because it lacks Philips Hue Go’s IP54 weather resistance rating. The Verge

Govee packs a full feature set into the Table Lamp Classic. It offers adjustable color temperatures from 2700K to 6500K, plus a suite of preset scenes and lively lighting effects. You can also type prompts describing the vibe you want and the lamp will generate matching effects, and it supports Matter for control through major smart home platforms. The Verge

Industry observers note that the sale positions Govee as a budget friendly entry into smart lighting with robust software features. The combination of a strong price, up to 500 lumens brightness, and Matter support broadens its appeal for price conscious buyers who want cross platform control, but the lack of weather resistance and shorter white light runtime compared with some rivals may limit outdoor use and daytime brightness testing. The Verge

Verdict: Buy if you want a feature rich, portable smart lamp on a budget and you will mostly use it indoors. Skip if you need weatherproof outdoor use or maximum white light runtime.
