A one-month ROBOTIS cohort used repeated Sim2Real experiments to turn virtual motion designs into physical-robot demonstrations.
ROBOTIS showcased the first OH! GYM! Project cohort as a demonstration-stage development effort. The university and graduate students explored, developed, and deployed their own humanoid behaviors on the open-source AI Sapiens K1 platform, according to material included by IEEE Spectrum in its robotics video roundup.
The workflow linked software design to hardware testing. Students first created motions in simulation—a virtual environment where a behavior can be developed before it runs on a machine. They then transferred those motions to a physical robot and repeated the process through Sim2Real experiments, short for “simulation to reality.”
That repetition is the engineering substance of the project. A motion that works in simulation still has to be executed by a physical robot. The cohort’s reported process therefore covered both sides of the handoff: designing behavior digitally, running it on hardware, and using further experiments to continue the development cycle over one month.
The showcase does not specify the cohort’s size, the individual behaviors, the robot hardware details beyond the Sapiens K1 platform, or how the physical results were evaluated. It also does not say whether the demonstrated behaviors continued beyond the project.
For operators and developers, the practical consequence is a defined workflow rather than a ready-made product: author behavior in simulation, transfer it to a robot, and iterate on the physical result. The next useful question is what each team built and how those behaviors performed after transfer.
