Xiaodu Uses WAIC 2026 to Pitch a Household AI Hub

Xiaodu used WAIC 2026 to present Super Xiaodu as the intelligence layer for an entire household, describing a “family intelligent-agent hub” intended to coordinate family members and connected devices around shared tasks.
The pitch moves beyond a smart-home command model in which a user asks a device to perform one action. Xiaodu’s proposed system is designed to identify household members, retain information about routines and preferences, interpret context across rooms, assign tasks to devices and report completion to the relevant person.
At the conference, Baidu Group vice president and Xiaodu Technology chief executive Li Ying said the Super Xiaodu upgrade was not simply about adding more agent functions. Xiaodu is aiming to build “system capabilities that serve the entire family,” she said.
The company described a three-layer architecture. The first is Super Xiaodu as an AI “brain,” with identity and intent recognition, long-term household memory and decision-planning functions.
The second is a sensing and interaction network spanning Xiaodu hardware such as smart speakers, smart displays, multimodal cameras, companion devices and IoT endpoints. These devices are intended to provide voice interaction, information display and visual sensing across the home.
Xiaodu also described an open intelligent-agent service layer as part of the system.
In a demonstration centered on a child returning home from school, a camera recognized the child and sent a safe-arrival notification to a parent. Homework tasks sent remotely by the parent appeared on a home smart display. After the child used a homework mode and submitted a recitation recording, the parent received a completion notice and feedback.
Xiaodu presented the workflow as a closed loop spanning task creation, distribution, execution and feedback. The demonstration was intended to show how a household system could reduce the need for parents and children to repeatedly confirm tasks through messages or manually set individual reminders.
The household’s strategic unit, in Xiaodu’s framing, is not an individual speaker, display, camera or appliance, but a connected network of devices serving shared family routines. That approach depends on the system’s ability to distinguish users, understand household spaces and coordinate device capabilities.
China’s home-AI market is increasingly being discussed in these terms. A 2026 China Household Electrical Appliances Association white paper, cited by TMTPost, estimated that AI appliances exceeded 50% penetration in the first quarter and could reach 65% for the full year. Those figures are industry estimates.
Xiaodu is not alone in pursuing the household control point. Xiaomi has promoted a whole-home approach built around its IoT hardware base, while Huawei has emphasized integration through HarmonyOS. Appliance manufacturers including Midea and Haier are also pursuing AI-led coordination from the appliance and home-space side.
Xiaodu’s WAIC presentation signals a broader contest over household orchestration: whether vendors can turn fragmented device fleets into systems that handle shared routines across multiple people, rooms and connected endpoints.
