Physical AI Funding Tops $23 Billion in 2026, Led by Mega-Rounds

Investment has focused on foundation models, industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, and humanoid robotics.

Physical AI companies have raised more than $23 billion in venture capital in 2026 so far, according to The Robot Report, which cited The Wall Street Journal.

The report identified several of the largest financings: Waymo’s $16 billion Series D, Skild AI’s $1.4 billion Series C, NEURA Robotics’ $1.4 billion Series C, and Physical Intelligence’s $1 billion funding round.

Those four deals total $19.8 billion. Compared with the $23 billion benchmark cited in the report, they represent roughly 86% of that amount, underscoring the scale of the largest rounds.

The Robot Report said investment has focused on foundation models, industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, and humanoid form factors. It also described physical AI as a shift from robots relying solely on deterministic programming for functions such as navigation and object recognition toward systems that can perceive, comprehend, decide, and act with AI.

The commercial use of physical AI depends on domain-specific data and training approaches suited to particular applications, according to the report. Its interviewees also discussed whether embodied AI, including mobile manipulators and humanoids, could advance general-purpose robotics and artificial general intelligence.

AI is also increasing demand for hyperscale data centers while potentially supporting their construction and maintenance through robotics, the report said. Simulation, fleet orchestration, and robotic reasoning are among the capabilities driving demand for compute in cloud and edge environments.
