KEB Adds One-Cable Motor Links

By Maxine Shaw1 min read

Single-source brief: KEB’s drive option combines motor power and encoder signals in one cable.

What Changed

KEB America announced One Cable Technology for S6 servo drives and F6 variable frequency drives.

The setup sends power and encoder signals through one motor cable.

It removes the separate encoder cable between the drive and motor.

Design World Online reports the package includes matching KEB TA and Dynamic Line servo motors.

OCT motor cables are available in lengths up to 50 meters.

The S6 range covers 0.75 kW through 7.5 kW.

The F6 range covers 2.2 kW through 37 kW.

Robotics Use on Moving Axes

Robot cells and other moving machine axes often use motor and encoder wiring.

KEB says one cable can reduce connections at motors and control cabinets.

That may matter where cables run through drag chains.

Fewer plug connections could mean fewer potential cable failure points, according to KEB.

KEB also says fewer cables can reduce routing and termination work.

Deployment and Unknowns

The system is available for specification, Design World Online reports.

KEB lists matching motors, connectors, encoders, and cable sizes for the option.

No installed robot-cell results were supplied.

No payback period, install-time data, or throughput results were supplied.

No independent deployment confirmation was provided.
