The announced workflow aims to help integrators adapt vision systems when products, lighting, or layouts change.

ABB Robotics is expanding OmniCore EyeMotion with AI Robot Trainer, a toolset for system integrators and automation partners. Design World reports that it connects image capture, artificial-intelligence model training, deployment, and later model updates in one workflow.

That matters when a production line changes more often than its robot program. Users can adapt applications to new product versions, lighting conditions, layouts, or object variations instead of building each vision model from the beginning, according to ABB.

The system combines synthetic images—computer-created training examples—with real-world image data. It also works with cameras and sensors from different manufacturers, which could make upgrades easier where plants already have mixed equipment.

A second piece links vision results to robot movement. Automatic collision-free path planning turns what the camera sees into a robot path while avoiding obstacles. The applications include two-dimensional pick-and-place, three-dimensional bin picking, quality inspection, sorting, and assembly.

ABB says the integrated solution can cut commissioning time by up to 90% and cycle time by up to 50% when that path planning is used. Those are vendor-reported figures; Design World does not provide the test conditions, baseline, customer sites, or applications behind them.

For plant teams, the potential return is less manual programming during changeovers and faster rollout across lines. The practical question is how much operator or integrator validation remains before an updated model can direct production motion—and whether those claimed savings hold on the plant’s own parts, cameras, and safety setup.
