There are also simpler alternatives for families that do not want a child carrying a smartphone-shaped device at all. Choose Bark if a parent wants flexibility over time and is comfortable with software that monitors supported communications and content for safety alerts.
Consider a more restricted phone if the priority is limiting browser access, social media, app stores, and other online distractions from the outset.
Wait or skip a smartphone-style device if the child only needs a way to contact family from home or during limited hours. A calling-and-texting device or child-focused home phone may meet that need with fewer apps and fewer permissions.
