The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,600, while a matching developer workstation starts at $6,000.
Microsoft announced two Windows machines built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip at an event in San Francisco, TechCrunch reports.
The Surface Laptop Ultra has two base models. One starts at $2,600, while a more powerful version starts at $3,700. Extra memory and storage can raise the price to $5,900. Microsoft says the highest-end configuration is already out of stock.
The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is a workstation for developers. It starts at $6,000 and includes Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot Command Line, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and PowerShell 7.
Microsoft says both systems are designed to run AI models directly on the device. Their processors, graphics chips, unified memory, and improved cooling are intended to handle that work locally, rather than relying entirely on remote servers. The announcement does not specify which models they support or how quickly they run them.
Microsoft is also adding “Execution Containers” to a revamped Windows 11. A container is a separated software space that can help limit what an AI agent can access. Microsoft says the feature will make it easier to sandbox agents, and CEO Satya Nadella said it will be available to all Windows 11 users. The company has not detailed the feature’s permissions or security controls.
Microsoft is offering up to $1,000 off when customers trade in a MacBook Pro. For developers, the next practical questions are model support, performance, and broad availability dates—none of which Microsoft has specified here.
