Warehouse robots just beat forecasts, and the data are loud. In 2025 Interact Analysis found warehouse automation order intake rose 7%, with Amazon, Tesco, and Marks & Spencer investing at scale and driving a surge in market activity. Production data shows those big bets pushed the sector into new deployment rhythms rather than lone demos.

The industry is not just talking; it is planning for a showy 2026. The Robotics Summit & Expo will be in Boston on May 27 and 28, with an entire session track devoted to robots in warehousing and logistics. That emphasis reflects a shift from pilots to scalable operations as retailers and third party logistics players push for measurable improvements in throughput and cycle time.

The agenda signals what practitioners have been hearing on the floor: scale matters more than the flashy demo. The track lineup includes “Beyond the Demo: An Under the Hood Look at Scaling Autonomous Robots,” led by Teddy Ort, senior vice president of robotics software and AI at Symbotic; “Building Warehouse Robots People Actually Want to Work With,” from Anthony Jules, co founder and CEO of Robust AI; and “From Design to Scale: The Ecosystem Powering Robotics Innovation,” a panel that will feature Rob Murphy, Evan Hochstein, and Jon Bond. These sessions map a path from pilots to productive deployments with real world constraints such as floor space, power needs, and training requirements.

Other talks sharpen the technology and its practice. “Where AI Delivers in Material Handling” will be explored by Chris Morgan, senior director of R&D at Bastian Solutions, while “Integrating AMRs with Supporting Software Systems for Efficient Packing in Warehouses” will be presented by Greg Meyne, vice president of automation, robotics, and consulting at enVista. In addition, the ecosystem frame is reinforced by the session “From Design to Scale: The Ecosystem Powering Robotics Innovation,” underscoring that hardware, software, and services must work in concert for reliable uptime.

In practice, the message from the show is clear. Automation is moving from glossy demonstrations to deployment with operational metrics in sight. Production data shows that real world integration across the AMR fleet, warehouse control systems, and packing workflows is now the gating factor for ROI. The emphasis on the ecosystem, as well as on workers’ experience with automated tooling, reflects two truths: scale requires reliable software and training, and a robot program that ignores the human element is unlikely to deliver long term payback.

For plant managers and automation engineers, the takeaway is practical, not promotional. The 2025 data show retailers committing capital, the 2026 agenda promises an explicit roadmap to scale, and the session topics translate into concrete action: plan for space and power, build an integrated software stack that can run AMRs alongside packing and WMS workflows, and prepare workers to work with automated teammates rather than around them. As the industry inches toward fewer jams and more predictable cycle times, a well funded deployment program is the new normal, not a prototype.
