Production data shows the ambition isn’t just to cram more robots into more aisles, but to harmonize a disparate fleet into one interoperable system that can be tuned from a central command post rather than tweaked at the local site level.

The Skyfleet rollout represents more than a technology upgrade; it’s a governance and integration exercise across a five-country footprint. Exotec’s robotic systems—built around its scalable Skypod solution—and a common software layer promise Decathlon the ability to compare throughput, cycle times, and error rates across sites. Integration teams report that the true test of a multi-site deployment isn’t the hardware huddle in the pilot lab, but the daily ballet of real orders, returns, and stock checks that must be reconciled in near real time. Across seven platforms, sites must be provisioned not only for more lifts and faster conveyors, but for the infrastructure that keeps a distributed fleet spinning: sufficient electrical headroom, robust wireless coverage, and a cybersecurity posture that doesn’t bottleneck data sharing between sites. Second, even with a standardized platform, the organizational change remains sizable. Operators must shift from a purely manual rhythm to a blended cadence where robots shoulder repetitive pulls, while humans still curate exceptions and handle complex picks. ROI documentation in this particular rollout has not been published publicly, and payback periods will depend on Decathlon’s labor cost structure, seasonal peak handling, and the extent to which the Skyfleet stack reduces manual travel time.
