Agility Robotics says its new humanoid can carry heavy loads, work long shifts, and avoid falling onto nearby people. Real workplace performance remains unproven.
Agility Robotics announced Digit 5 as a humanoid worker for manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. IEEE Spectrum reports that the robot is intended to lift 23 kilograms up 2.1 meters and operate for more than 20 hours a day.
Its main safety idea is simple: give up the task before risking contact. According to IEEE Spectrum’s account of Agility’s announcement, Digit 5 will autonomously avoid a person, stop, put down its load, or sit stably on the floor before the person gets close.
That approach treats safety as a physical behavior, not just a software warning. It could reduce the need for barriers around the robot, but stopping or sitting also interrupts work. The important test is whether the behavior works reliably in crowded, changing workplaces.
Digit 5 is reported to stand 1.8 meters tall and weigh 129 kilograms. IEEE Spectrum also reports that Agility had more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders as of May 2026, with interest from manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics companies.
Those orders are not the same as deployed robots. The announcement does not establish how many units are operating at customer sites, whether independent safety testing has been completed, or whether the reported lifting and runtime figures hold during regular shifts.
IEEE Spectrum says Agility estimates an initial parts cost of $150,000 to $200,000 and has illustrated a possible service price near $8,500 per month. Both are estimates, not a final price. The next practical milestone is evidence from customer workplaces: deliveries, task results, incident records, and sustained operation around people.
