ANSI/A3 R15.08-3-2026 covers risk assessment, change management, training, and recurring inspections during workplace operation.
The Association for Advancing Automation has released the final part of its R15.08 safety standard for industrial mobile-robot applications, according to ASSEMBLY Magazine. The standard focuses on continued workplace use after a system has been deployed.
Part 3 addresses how manufacturers and other users should maintain acceptable risk during day-to-day operation. Its guidance is intended to account for changes to equipment, applications, and the operating environment after deployment.
That gives plant teams a safety process to revisit when a robot’s equipment, job, or work area changes. The standard covers risk assessment, management of change, employee training, and periodic reviews and inspections.
In practical terms, operators may need procedures for assessing proposed changes, updating training, and scheduling recurring safety checks. The announcement does not establish implementation costs, audit methods, legal requirements, or whether the standard reduces workplace incident rates.
Part 3 completes a three-part framework covering an industrial mobile-robot application across its lifecycle. Part 1 addresses the mobile robot itself, while Part 2 covers mobile-robot systems and applications. Part 3 focuses on keeping the deployed application acceptably safe during ongoing use.
A3 makes the new standard available, along with a bundle containing all three parts. For companies already operating industrial mobile robots, the useful next step is to compare current change-control, training, review, and inspection procedures with the new guidance.
