A virtual factory guides big automation bets before a single bolt is turned

At Automate 2026, Eclipse Automation unveiled Eclipse RealitySync, an immersive collaboration platform designed to help manufacturers evaluate, de-risk and scale factory automation projects before production systems are built. The platform, built to run in virtual production spaces, is anchored by Apple Vision Pro technology and is meant to bring engineering, operations and leadership teams together to review layouts, workflows and equipment fit in a shared walk-through environment.

RealitySync emphasizes the operational mindset first. By letting cross-functional teams step through a virtual factory, the tool aims to surface spatial clashes and workflow mismatches early, enabling decisions that affect cycle times and throughput long before any physical fabrication begins. The pitch is simple: you change the plan in the virtual world, not on the shop floor. That approach, proponents say, can shorten commissioning time and reduce costly rework, because the most disruptive questions are answered before a single panel is cut or a conveyor is mounted.

The account from Eclipse centers on collaboration and risk reduction rather than hype about miracles. Automate 2026 served as the stage for a platform designed to mirror real production concerns in a controlled setting. Real-time participation from multiple levels of a manufacturing organization is a focal point, with the system supporting executives who must approve large automation bets and engineers who must translate layouts into workable line configurations. In practice, this means a more connected planning phase where the implications of automation decisions, including layout efficiency, equipment footprint, and sequential workflows, are tested against a virtual model before any downtime or capital outlay is incurred.

As with any new planning tool, practical considerations will govern its value. Integration questions loom for buyers: how RealitySync will connect with existing CAD or BIM data, how secure data transfers will be, and how results from virtual sessions translate into concrete project milestones and capital approvals. The account notes the platform enables review of factory layouts and production environments, but it does not spell out the exact data formats or software interfaces required to weave it into a broader digital twin or MES stack. In other words, the keys to ROI will depend on how smoothly a manufacturer can feed current design data into the virtual environment and how readily virtual findings translate into revised engineering documents and procurement plans.

Skilled trades are not foregrounded in the initial announcement. The platform’s value proposition is pitched to engineering, operations and leadership teams evaluating automation project scope, scale and sequencing. Still, observers note that when virtual planning tools shape real world deployments, craft labor, including electricians, welders, fitters and linemen, often becomes a critical beneficiary or bottleneck. If RealitySync maps work paths and safety considerations for such trades, it could help planners align carpentry, electrical, welding and inspection tasks with new line layouts, minimizing rework and site-based change orders.

What to watch next is straightforward. Look for case studies or pilot results that quantify time-to-value, provide early-cycle metrics, and reveal how virtual reviews translate into line performance once systems go live. Expect additional dialogue about data interoperability, security, and the degree to which immersive planning tools become a standard step in factory automation projects. For now, Eclipse is betting that reality begins in the headset, and decisions that move a project forward are made with a clearer picture of the plant of record before any parts are ordered.
