Agility Robotics opens Fremont hub to expand Digit software development

The 60,000-square-foot California site will house nearly 200 employees across hardware engineering, AI software engineering and field operations, complementing the company’s RoboFab manufacturing operation in Salem, Oregon.

Agility Robotics has opened a 60,000-square-foot facility in Fremont, California, establishing a Bay Area hub for software and capabilities development for its Digit humanoid robot.

The company said the Fremont operation will bring together hardware engineering, AI and machine-learning software engineering, and field-operations teams. Nearly 200 existing and new employees will work from the facility.

Agility said the site will be used to train, test and advance the AI technologies that enable Digit to learn new skills and perform more sophisticated tasks in customer environments. The Fremont facility complements the company’s RoboFab manufacturing operations in Salem, Oregon.

Peggy Johnson, Agility’s chief executive, said the Silicon Valley location will help the company develop new capabilities for Digit faster and put them to work for customers.

“Being in the heart of Silicon Valley brings us into one of the world’s leading AI talent and innovation ecosystems, allowing us to develop new capabilities for Digit faster and put them to work for customers immediately,” Johnson said.

Agility said it has active humanoid deployments with Schaeffler, GXO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and Mercado Libre.

The company also said it has secured more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit v5, subject to certain contractual milestones, and has a customer pipeline of more than 30 companies.
